Space Truckin

I saw Cheap Trick on the news today, which was a bit sad since dudes are all old, but at the same time awesome because they have kept up rocking. I wanted to go see Cheap Trick at the taste of chicago a few years ago, but no one wanted to go since everyone is too cool or something. As much as I like to observe this freak show called humanity, I can't stand big festival crowds like the ones at the taste.

Got the latest Fratellis album, Here We Stand, from the library, it came with a complimentary order of disappointment. It's heavier than Costello Music, but that's cut down since the whole thing sounds like, well, pick a band any band! Fuck, I liked Costello Music, I liked it even after Chelsea Dagger started playing on every other movie trailer, I still like it! Alas all the wit and charm from Costello Music is not to be found in Here We Stand. I guess it would be a good, a relief from whatever is playing on generic rock station no 4, but it quickly fades into background music.

I just heard of The Fast Cars, like right now!

I like me a good cover!

I feel so wrong for liking this!

Hmm

Alice Cooper plays golf

Teen Idols are playing this years Riot Fest at the Metro! I want to go since I caught on late to those guys, which is how I roll most of the time :(

From the library I got MC5's Kick Out The Jams, a live album that is great for night driving, well great for anything I can think off at the moment. It's short, but in an exhilarating sharp blow to the head kind of way. According to the flier that's printed in the booklet, the show was held on Halloween in 1968 (or 9?) and the Stooges opened, badass!

Concerts I've been to in the last week
Cluth, Baroness, Lionize, U.S. Brass, at Kuma's corner block party. I got there in time to see U.S. Brass, who played some good old rock and or roll, the kind that you guzzle cheap, hateful whiskey and/or driving around in a rusting camero. Lionize came on after them with some cool stoner rock tinged reggae, they sound better live than on their myspace site; those guys were like my 4th friend, they requested me! Baroness was dope! A howling wind of a band. Clutch was pretty cool, I was expecting more oomph or something though.

On sunday I drove Al Thawra to the empty bottle for a show they had with Death Factory, William Sides Atari Party, and the mighty Xrim Arms. I guess it was good, but no one really showed up. I was working the merch table so yeah. That consisted of hanging out and soliciting people to buy stuff. Since the show was sparsely attended I didn't really do much. I tried to do the Reader's crossword, got to maybe a little under a 3rd. Since I was with the band I got to hang out in the green room and what not. At one point William Sides said that the Empty Bottle was going to (all of those bands are my buds too, ha) give us free beer. We hung out there for a while, debating whether or not the hole in the wall was of the glory variety, smoking weed, general dumbassery. Eventually two guys showed up carrying a small tub or huge bucket. One of the guys said, "You dudes ready to get ripped on malt liquor?" Sure enough there was enough Colt 45 to drown Billy Dee Williams in the container. Of course I couldn't get stupid drunk, but I had a few. At one point I said, "Drinking malt liquor in a basement, this is how weird fucking nights start." It was badass. I even sold a few cds! Saw a few, well hardly anyone went, people that I vaguely know, drank free booze, a win all the way.
